Adam Hollioake Fight Night & Weight Loss
I am not sure if any of you are aware.....or even care..... but I am undertaking a charity fight out here on the Gold Coast on the 21st May. So many people ask me why I am doing it and why would I risk my face for a charity. Well there are a couple of reasons for this,
First reason is I love fighting (not on the street) but the art of combat sports, I have boxed since the age of 12 and not many people will know it is my true love. I am fascinated by the skill and more so the mental toughness required to perform in most combat sports. There is no where to hide and very little variables in a combat sport, luck usually doesn't play a part in most of these sports.
Secondly I needed a new challenge as since retiring from cricket and returning to Australia I have not had that burning desire or anything to focus on. There isnt many things in life that compare to the long term achievement of goals.
So many of our society today want immediate reward and arent prepared to work at it. Don't get me wrong I am not blaming our youth, quite the opposite I am saying that our society provides for people who want immediate entertainment. Never have video games, movies, amusement parks been so accessible. The prospect of having to work hard to achieve a goal doesn't seem very appealing when we can sit down and be entertained or get another level on the computer game in a very short time.
That is why we see people cry when they win gold medals at the Olympics etc. They are aware of all the hard work that has gone into enjoying that one brief moment of reward.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the training albeit tough leading up to this fight, I enjoy pushing myself and in a strange way the pain involved with boxing training. I think with most things it is the knowing that all your hard work will make you healthy and just provide me with an overall feeling of well being.
So far I have lost 8kgs, I started at a very sloppy 106kgs and have trained 6 days a week for the last 6 weeks to get down to a slightly trim 98kgs. I have another 8kgs to go to reach my goal weight of 90kgs.

I have been training under the watchful eye of the highly regarded Stephen Ng, he has taken me back to basics and has instilled a desire to win in me that has always been there but has just gone a little bit cold as of late. He has a wonderful persona and his calm and caring nature makes you want to work for him. He has pushed me fairly hard, but I think the thing that has really grabbed my attention is a bet he made with me and Jason Roebig (the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt coach) he has set us dates and weights to achieve that weight, if we don't reach it we have to shave off an eyebrow. Let me tell you I may not be the heavyweight champion of the world, but let me tell you I will be moving heaven and earth to make sure I don't jump in the ring on May 21st as Mr Mono Brow!
